This cactus seed starting mix has been developed as a living system, and is highly mold and maggot resistant as well as being unattractive to the adult forms of insects like Fungus Gnats, Shore Flies, Soil Flies and (Sciara Flies). They are less likely to want to lay eggs in this medium and if they do the maggots are will fail to survive. This seed starting medium contains: Volcanic glass rock types, Perlite rock types, Silicate minerals, Fels rock types, Psammite rock types, Calcareous rock types, Saline rock types, Siliceous rock types, Biogenic Sedimentary rocks, Carbonaceous rock types, Sphagnum moss, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus popiliae and an organic tea produced using organic gardening methods.

This soil contains a microbial spore mixture that includes; Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus popiliae to control molds and soil dwelling fly larva. These microbes are harmless to humans and pets, but will help the germinating cactus seedlings from being destroyed by mold or fly larva. Mold spores are always present in the air and flies that lay eggs on plants and soil may become attracted to germinating cactus seeds. This seed starting medium is a living system designed to improve the environment for cacti seedlings and increase their chances to grow into adult plants. The medium is ready to use and would be ruined if cooked or sanitized before use, so keep soil at room temperature before use.

Even though our soils are free of any human made chemicals such as fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides it is still important to take the same precautions that you would working with any soil. Avoid getting any soils on skin or in eyes, keep away form pets and children, and please do not use other than for intended usage. When potting any plant in any soil it is important to avoid breathing airborne dust, and wash hands after use. Soil of all kinds contain microorganisms, and if you are interested in the best safe measures it is recommendable to use gloves and a dust mask when working with any and every kind of soil. Airborne dust from soil contains silicates, and every plant grower should be aware that prolonged exposure to airborne silicates has been shown to lead to lung cancer. Soils from us contain rocks, minerals and organic formations that occur in nature, but they still need to be handled with care. Our soils are made of ingredients from the earth, so if some is left over it can be recycled back into mother earth such as adding leftovers to a garden or flower bed.
