This is one of the most interesting genera of cacti who's natural habitat is in the mountains of northern Mexico. These plants are lovers of limestone and need some limestone in their potting mix. They are sometimes called 'Living Rock Cactus' because if you touch them they feel very hard and their skin is rough and dull like the texture of weathered rock. Their flower colors range from white, yellowish white, pink, magenta and violet. These cacti like to have sa much sun as they can, so it is important to have a well sun lit location to keep any species of these plants alive and healthy. These are one of the few varieties of cacti that grow mostly in the fall and it's best to give them a five to six month rest period when these plants are kept completely dry.
