good locations

These seeds can be started in almost any growing medium ,and they like wet soil with warm conditions. Germination will more likely occur if the soil temperature is above 80 °F in the daytime and close to 60 °F at night. They remain small for several years and will take 8 years before reaching a large sprawling size. They are small compared to many epiphyte species and may become around 3 feet across as a full sized plant. Thriving in low light conditions guatemalense is a good fit for a window hanging basket plant.

Sometime this species of Cacti is called "Curly White Night" which is a common name.

The flowers Epiphyllum guatemalense makes are long slender funnels with small white petals producing a bloom less than a few inches across. As a house plant they will make flowers almost any time of the year, but tend to make only one flower at a time. The flowers produce seed pods which can be cleaned for the seeds when the pod begins to show cracks in the skin. New plants can be grown from seeds and it takes about 8 years for the plants to grow large enough to bloom. Stem cuttings are a fast and easy way to root new plants from, and they can be rooted in either soil or water.

NOTE: The Epiphyllum Guatemalense usually has flowers which open, but the version of this plant offered for sale is atypical for this species. Plants grown from these seeds will produce self fertile flowers which usually do not open. Their beauty is less in the flowers and more appreciation can be held for them for their sculptural curly stems.
