(propagated plants & seeds) Parodia Photos: This genus of mostly globular cacti are very common in propagation, and in habitat they range through Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. They are more difficult than most varieties to keep in a natural growth pattern, but they are good survivors. Their flower colors are mostly yellow colors, but some range from lit pink through deep reds and magentas as well as oranges, whites and green. Many varieties are easy to find in greenhouses and make good house plants if they have plenty of sun. It is helpful to keep them dry in the cool winter season with only very small amounts of water. Be sure to give them lots of water when they are making flowers and growing. Too much water in the winter or too little sun in the growing seasons may cause them to have distorted growth.
